Greetings. My name is Fernando Alvarez and PrANin Yoga is my passion. Several years ago I found myself out of shape and in serious discomfort from the lack of healthy movement that everyday life can bring and various injuries accumulated over the years.
I decided to take up yoga and since then I have recovered my health, energy, and flexibility.
I am an avid student and facilitator of yoga with the approach of ‘Beginner’s mind’. I am committed to the reality of ‘Your body-your Yoga’ and that there is no universal mold for postures, breath, diet, or healing.
My training has been in Iyengar yoga, Anusara yoga, and Vinyasa style. I have studied at LMULA under Srivasta Ramaswami (Vinyasa Krama), an original leading disciple of T. Krishamacharya, arguably one of the founders of modern postural yoga.
I have also studied for several with Tedd Surman, at his Yoga-Aryuveda center- Yoga Awareness – Hawaii – Japan in Honolulu. Tedd is a student of TKV Desikachar, as well as Gary Kraftsow, founder of the American Viniyoga Institute.
My approach is best summed up by the following quote by Mark Whitwell:
“Body movement is synchronistic with the breath. The breath envelops the movement. The inhale is from above, the exhale from below… they meet in the middle to balance the Prana and the Apana, the Female and the Male… The inhalation is from the atmosphere and is receptive, the exhalation is from within and below and is strength.”
Lastly, but most importantly, I work everyday at being a better husband, father, grandfather, teacher and friend. I look forward to meeting you and helping you build a yoga practice that fits your goals, needs, physical condition, and lifestyle.
I hold both individual and outdoor group classes in the Palm Desert area.
